The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has tasked Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, to wake up to his responsibilities and rescue citizens from the current insecurity in the state.
Reacting to the murder of a kidnap victim, Adegboyega Onijala, the PDP alleged that despite reported cases of kidnappings and killings in different parts of the state, “the governor has not demonstrated any commitment to deal with the situation.”
The party in a statement in Ilorin on Thursday by the state Publicity Secretary, Tunde Ashaolu, condemned the murder of Adegboyega Onijala noting that ” the spate of kidnap for ransom and ritual killings in Kwara State in recent times is worrisome and quite unfortunate.”
The party lamented that criminal elements including kidnappers and ritual killers now operate freely in different parts of the state, destroying lives and throwing families into a state of sadness.
” What is more worrisome is that the state government, saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property, appears helpless in securing the lives of Kwarans who live in perpetual fear of attacks and kidnappings,” it added.
The party charged security operatives to investigate the sad incident and bring the perpetrators to book.
It commiserated with the family of the victim and the people of Isin Local Government Area in general.
Recall with TST that the Police on Wednesday recovered the corpse of Adegboyega Onijala who was kidnapped at about 7pm by unknown gunmen last Saturday in Olla community of Isin Local Government Area of the state.
He reportedly died at the hands of the kidnappers in the forest as a result of the severe machete cut injuries inflicted on him during the attack.
TST gathered that the kidnappers had collected about N400,000 as ransom but eventually killed the victim.

“They have a great manager in Thomas Tuchel, and a very good team.
“Real Madrid did it three years in a row, which was a historical accomplishment for the club and Zidane, but to win the Champions League, you need a lot of things to go your way. For me, English clubs are better prepared.”
- Fabrizio Romano reveal clubs fighting over signing Antonio Rudiger.
Football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, has revealed that Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are battling to sign Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea at the end of the season.
Romano said this while providing the latest update on Rudiger’s contract situation with Chelsea.
He explained that Rudiger would like to stay at Chelsea if the two parties can agree to terms on a new deal.
Chelsea are yet to agree on a deal to extend Rudiger’s contract at Stamford Bridge.
Rudiger’s current deal with Chelsea will expire at the end of the season.
The Germany international played a key role in Chelsea’s Premier League title challenge under Thomas Tuchel season, scoring two goals in 14 league games.
“It’s true that Real Madrid have an interest, but we have said on this podcast many times that Real Madrid, PSG and Bayern Munich are the three clubs interested in Rudiger,” Romano told the Here We Go podcast.
“They approached the people around Rudiger for permission [to negotiate]. There is no negotiations or contract proposals yet. Why? Because Rudiger is still talking with Chelsea.
“It’s not over between Rudiger and Chelsea yet. He would love to stay. He loves the club. The economical proposal is not what Chelsea wants. They are still far from an agreement at the moment. That is why Rudiger has the chance to leave the club as a free agent.”
The 28-year-old joined Chelsea in a £29 million deal from AS Roma in 2017.

- Bauchi APC chieftain asks Buhari to consent to amended electoral act.
A chieftain of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Alhaji Hassan Mohammed Sheriff, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari, to immediately give his assent to the amended Electoral Act as passed by the National Assembly.
Sheriff stated this while addressing a press conference at the Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Bauchi.
According to him, if Buhari signs the amended law, it would enhance internal democracy in all political parties in the country, particularly in the ruling APC.
“When operational, the Electoral Act as amended will strengthen internal democracy within the political parties,” Sheriff asserted.
He further called on President Buhari to ensure that internal democracy is allowed to be instituted in the party if APC must exist beyond 2023 after he must have left.
He submitted that what transpired during the recent congresses of the party held across the country and particularly in Bauchi State, was nothing but a sham.
“A situation where because someone close to the seat of power will come down to impose leadership on the party at the state, local government and ward levels is not acceptable and may spell doom for the party,” he said.
Explaining what transpired in the state during the party-state congress, Sheriff alleged that there was the imposition of leaders on the party, saying that it was done in connivance with the electoral committee sent to supervise the congress from the national secretariat of the party.
This, he said, was responsible for his going to court to challenge the imposition on party members in the state, alleging that certain people who did not contribute to building APC in the state wanted to reap where they did not sow.
“On the 16th of October, 2021, it will be recalled that a seven-man committee led by Jibrin Sam, mandated to provide oversight for the election of APC party officials in Bauchi State connived with a so-called party leader, who is neither a genuine stakeholder nor an elected representative to deprive our party and stakeholders genuine representation by hoisting Alhaji Babayo Aliyu Misau, a questionable proxy on us as a state party leader.
“Because we believe justice is for the masses and not for a few. We headed to court as a resort of the victimised to enforce our rights to elect those who will represent us.
“We believe that certain political actors that have not built our great party the All Progressive Congress in Bauchi State have come to reap where they did not sow.
“It is against this background that we instituted a suit seeking for the dissolution of executive members of the party in the state.
“Joined in the suit included the acting national chairman of the APC, Mai Mala Buni; chairman of the Bauchi State Extended Stakeholder Committee, Adamu Adamu; member of the extended stakeholder committee, Yakubu Dogara and 39 others as defendants,” he explained.
According to him, while giving an interim injunction on the matter on Thursday last week, the judge, Justice Kunaza Hamidu, ordered the members of the executive to stop parading themselves as APC leaders pending the hearing and determination of the suit before the court.
Sheriff asserted that those who wanted to cause trouble in APC in the state neither have the interest of the party at heart nor are loyal party members.
“These individuals who are bent on causing a rift in our party do not have the interest of the state at heart or that of loyal party members and stakeholders, not even that of the national party and its stake in our country. Their ulterior motive is to cause disunity and disaffection in our party.
“We should not allow this to happen. We have worked hard to be where we are and as we approach 2023, we should shun all divisiveness by people who have no stake in our party or in our well being and prosperity.
‘Let’s come together and forge a common party in order to reclaim our endowed and beautiful state to the path of glory and sustainability.”

Raymond Dokpesi, founder of DAAR Communications, has said the north should still produce Nigeria’s president in 2023.
Dokpesi said based on an arrangement and calculation by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the North would still produce Nigeria’s president in 2023.
Against this backdrop, the media mogul said Atiku Abubakar, former presidential candidate of the PDP, should be elected as president.

According to Dokpesi: “We have set out the criteria, and have identified the issues, and said that the kind of leadership we need in this country must be a courageous, fair, tested and proven leadership with cognate experience in the management of the affairs of the conclusion, rightly or wrongly, that the person that has the quality to unite Nigeria at this point in time is Waziri Atiku Abubakar.
“We must put a square peg in a square hole. We must not allow some people who want to disintegrate this country to succeed.
“2023 is still the turn of the North based on the PDP agreement and calculation. The records of the PDP are there.
“Some people said why should we bring a Fulani man again, and I said have we not been living with Fulani people? I was brought up by a Fulani man, Bamanga Tukur.
“Nigerians must unite and deal with elements brought into the country for destabilisation. We are here to plead and cry to the leaders of North Central not to relent in their sacrifices for the country.”
